No immediate pressure on Osho as ex-Reading defender will be given time to develop at Luton

Luton boss Nathan Jones isn’t planning on rushing new signing Gabriel Osho straight into first team action after he officially joined the club on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old former Reading centre half and right back has made just five Football League starts in his career to date, all of them coming in the Championship for the Royals, including at Kenilworth Road last season, when his side ran out emphatic 5-0 winners.

Osho left the Madejski Stadium in the summer after turning down a new contract and is now a fully fledged Luton player, as on his chances of breaking into the Town team this term, Jones said: “We knew about him, ironically, he played against us in the fixture that we didn’t actually play very well in.

“We were aware there might be an opportunity to bring him in, he’s got a decent pedigree, comes from Reading, we knew that he was getting offered a deal at Reading, but he didn't see a pathway there, so we just saw an opportunity to bring a young, athletic, hungry player.

“It had to be the right decision for us, because obviously where he plays, centre half, right back, we’re covered in that area as it is.

“We didn't want to curtail anyone, so as soon as we saw that we had an opportunity to loan Peter Kioso out (to Bolton Wanderers) and further his development, we then were able to fill the void by bringing Gabi in.

“He’ll need a bit of work first as he joined us late for a number of reasons.

“He just needs a bit of game-time, he’s had some game-time against Birmingham and against Charlton (in U21 games) and training today, he’s looked a lot sharper than he has in recent weeks so he’s getting there.

“He’s a few weeks off at the minute, but there's no pressure on him to immediately impact us at the moment.

“He's one that we can really have a good look at and try to develop in our time.”
