O’Donnell given license to get forward for Town

Despite not yet meeting Town boss John Still face to face, the 23-year-old was quick to pen a two-year deal at Kenilworth Road on Monday, after being impressed by the pair’s discussions on the phone.

O’Donnell said: “To get an opportunity to play under a manager I believe believes in me was one of the main factors behind signing.

“I didn’t know him, but knew of him; he’s really well respected in football, a manager of that calibre and experience is another pull on top of Luton Town itself, so it was flattering to get the call.

“He told me why he was signing me, what he believed were my strengths and that he thought I would fit into the way he was looking to play at Luton Town.”

Just on what those strengths were, O’Donnell confirmed he is in the modern mould of full-backs who join up with the attack at every opportunity.

One look at the internet shows exactly what the defender is capable of, finishing off a stunning end-to-end goal for Partick Thistle last season.

He continued: “I like to try and get forward, I like to bomb on, join up with the play as I want to be involved.”
