Midfielder JJ O’Donnell is hoping his loan spell at Hyde can see him become a regular with the Hatters once more, writes Mark Wood.

The 22-year-old has struggled to break into Luton’s starting XI this term after being a fixture under former manager Paul Buckle, who handed him a three-year deal.

He moved to fellow Skrill Premier side Hyde until January last week and speaking exclusively to the News/Gazette, said: “I thought it was the right time for me to go and play some games of football, as I had sat around for a little while.

“Christmas is always a busy time for teams in the Conference and to go out and play for a month won’t do me any harm.

“When the month’s up I will revisit what’s it’s been like and sit down with the gaffer (John Still) and see how he views it.”

O’Donnell has only figured for the Hatters three times this season, but marked his Tigers debut with a great strike during their 2-1 FA Trophy defeat to North Ferriby United on Saturday.

There had been a chance for the youngster to drop down to the Skrill South, but he admitted he was always keen to remain in the Conference.
