Out of contract Town midfielder Clark wants to sign a new deal with the Hatters
Long-serving player is a free agent in the summer
Out of contract Luton midfielder Jordan Clark has insisted he would love to sign a new deal with the club and remain at Kenilworth Road for another six years if possible.
The 32-year-old was snapped up by the Hatters in the summer of 2020 when Town were then in the Championship, dubbed the ‘best free transfer’ ever made by then manager Nathan Jones. He has gone on to enjoy a wonderful time in Bedfordshire since, scoring in the play-off final win over Coventry City in May 2023, also netting in the penalty shootout that followed, as Luton reached the Premier League.
Clark then made 23 appearances in the top flight, on target once, before relegation was followed by a disastrous campaign in the Championship, Town dropping back into League One after a last-day thrashing at West Bromwich Albion. Although this term has been a tough watch at times, Clark has been one of the shining lights, the club's leading marksman with 12 goals, also grabbing an assist in the Vertu Trophy victory over Stockport County on Sunday.

The ex-Barnsley and Shrewsbury Town winger will be a free agent in the summer though, and asked about his situation for next season, Clark, who has made 218 appearances and scored 30 goals in total, said: “Nothing yet to be honest, I’m just focusing on this season. I’m not focusing on any contracts at the minute, it’s just full focus on the games ahead, and then I’ll sit down with the club in the summer and discuss what’s best and hopefully I stay here for another six years.
“I’ve never wanted to leave and to be truthful I could have maybe gone in the summer, but I felt that little bit of debt to the club, especially after the back-to-back relegations which was tough. Listen, it was more tough for the fans of course who have been here a lot longer before me and will be a lot longer after me, but that West Brom game was a really dark day.
"It was tough, I’ll never forget that, but I’ve had the highest of the highs here and the lowest of the lows, and nothing more than I’d love is to help get this club back to the Championship. If that would be it for me it would be such a great way to go out, but we’ll see what happens. Full focus on the games and then I’ll sit down with the club and hopefully we can get something sorted.”
With Clark leading the way in the scoring charts for Luton this season, having reached a dozen when firing home against Peterborough United on Good Friday, he is now having the most prolific campaign of not just his time with the Hatters, but also his entire career, easily surpassing the nine he managed twice when with Accrington Stanley. Asked just why he thinks that has been the case, he continued: “I can’t really say there’s been any good goals this year as there’s been a lot of tap-ins, but it’s being in the right place at the right time.
"Maybe I’ve had a bit more license to get forward this year and just being in the right place at the right time, maybe that comes with the gaffer giving me a little bit more freedom to get in the box. I know that’s what he wants from his midfielders and it’s good as when I play with Walshy (Liam Walsh) and Savs (George Saville), they can maybe hold the middle.
"When I started getting a few goals I just tried to take it on myself to try and be the guy every week who is the match-winner as there’s no-one who loves this club more than me. So I take it on my shoulders and try my best every week and if I do score it’s a bonus. My most goals in a season so I’m really pleased and hopefully it can continue until the end of the season."
With Stevenage getting hammered by Bolton Wanderers last night, then it means the door back into the top six is ajar once more, Luton able to move to within three points of their Hertfordshire rivals with a win over virtually relegated Northampton Town this evening. On the chances of extending their campaign into May, Clark added: “That’s the aim now, but we’ve just got to focus on one game at a time.
"I know it’s an old cliche, but it’s bit us in the backside a little bit this year with thinking too far ahead, especially when you maybe think, oh if we get seven points out of nine and it never works like that. It’s probably cost us a little bit this year and we have to focus on game to game, as we’ve got a good feeling about the place and we’ve got a lot of confident players.
“Our away form has been our biggest disappointment this year, especially when you see every away stand packed out as well, it’s so disappointing. But it’s nice to see now the away games, everyone’s leaving with smiles on their faces which is the best feeling when you see the fans chanting, and Powelly’s (Chris Powell) doing his fist pumping, there’s nothing better.”
