Poignant moment for Town striker at Prostate Cancer UK Stadium

The club renamed their Kenilworth Road ground as the Prostate Cancer UK Stadium for the day, with donation buckets on hand for the charity before kick off, raising over £1,500.

It had a particularly 
poignant meaning for Lee too as he said: “I think it’s massive as on a personal level, my granddad had prostate cancer.

“He had the surgery to get it removed and I did Movember for him so it’s really good to get involved in that.

“He’s fully recovered now, he had the new surgery to remove the cancer and he’s fighting fit now.

“He’s actually in China at the minute, but he’s been to every other game.

“It hit the family hard, but we all stuck together and it was great to see him fighting fit now.

“He knew about it (stadium renaming) and was really proud. We should be aware of the cause and it’s really good of the club to rename the stadium and I think it went down well with everyone.

“It’s a brilliant cause, should be highlighted and there’s no better stage than on TV, a big game like Luton against Wycombe, so it was a really good gesture.”

Lee also paid his own personal tribute to former West Ham youngster Dylan Tombides when scoring his first of the evening.

The 20-year-old died of testicular cancer in April 2014, and Lee, who wears number 38 as a mark of respect, lifted his shirt to reveal a special message.

He continued: “I was delighted to do that for Dyl.

“Being on the Sky cameras, I thought it was a great stage to honour my good mate who sadly passed away almost a year ago to the day.

“I’m really happy to be able to do that for him.”

On the pitch, it was another frustrating evening for Lee and his team-mates, as despite his brace, they were beaten 3-2.

The forward urged Hatters’ fans to stick with their side though as he added: “All the performances haven’t been terrible, we’ve played quite well, created chances, but if we’re conceding three, it makes it an uphill task.

“Stick behind us though, it’s going to change, we’re playing well and your support means everything.

“We need that support in these down times and were going to turn it around.”
