Posh prove too powerful as understrength Hatters are swept aside

Hatters: Much-changed Luton Town U18s went down 6-2 to Peterborough United at Ely Way in the Youth Alliance League Cup on Saturday.

Ahead of the FA Youth Cup game against Stevenage tomorrow (Tuesday), boss Paul Driver used the game to take a look at a trialist and some U16 players, while also giving game time to players returning from injury.

After the game, he said: “We made too many silly mistakes on the ball and they punished us every time unfortunately.

“But, we got minutes into the legs of a couple of lads coming back from injury and the U16 lads will only gain from the experience at this level.”

Peterborough raced into a two-goal lead in the first quarter of an hour, but Jemale McKenzie-Lowe pulled one back with a close-range header.

However, two further goals from the visitors opened up a 4-1 half-time lead.

An excellently-worked goal, started and finished by Zane Banton, gave the Hatters youngsters hope but a strong Peterborough outfit added two goals in the last quarter of the game to seal victory.

Hatters: Carpenter, Carrey (Trottman 50), Burtenshaw, Stephens (Jibodu 70), Chabata, Rees, Banton, Galliford, Davis, McKenzie-Lowe (Maguraushe 70), Ngwala.
