Recent Town addition Tom Ince felt the reputation that Luton have carved out for themselves in the footballing world helped persuade him to make the move to Kenilworth Road recently.

The 29-year-old, who has plied his trade in the Premier League for Crystal Palace, Hull City and Huddersfield Town, was one of two deadline day addition brought in on loan from Stoke City by boss Nathan Jones.

He was happy to join the Hatters having been impressed from afar at what had been happening within Bedfordshire, saying: “Everyone felt the rise that the club’s had through the leagues, everyone’s caught the eye.

“I think there was a stat about the most goals in Europe a couple of years ago.

“When I look at it as a football person, it’s always been an attack-minded, full throttle team.

"When you’re a forward player in that type of team, you always feel like you’ve got the confidence to express yourself and do the hard work for the team, but to be a forward player and get chances and score goals, that’s what I thrive off.

“I think that’s what the reputation brings and you see a club that’s gone under the radar but, at the minute, is playing with such big personality.

"Obviously the manager’s got his own personality, that you see too.

“The thing I’ve noticed the most is that when I came to this club, the players have that quiet sense of confidence, that sense of strong character and mentality to do well against all odds.

“I’ve been pleasantly surprised and pleased since I’ve come in and seen the direction, the way the players are playing, the hunger, the attitude, that goes a long way and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

After staying up on the final day of last season, Town have now flourished in their second season at this level, with 10 wins already to sit in mid-table ahead of last night’s game with Cardiff.

Having been with the squad, Ince can see signs of why that has occurred, as he continued: “I’ve not seen it over a long period of time, but you just know as soon as you walk in, from the little things of timing, to the gym, everything is done to the maximum ability.

“There’s no cutting corners and the manager expects perfection out on the training pitch.

“The players demand that from themselves and, if you do that on a day-to-day basis, and you push each other to the limits and beyond, then you always give yourself half a chance of doing well.

“In the Championship, it’s a crazy league.

"Sometimes it’s down to mentality and having that extra five or ten yards when you’ve played Saturday, Tuesday for the last three weeks and you’ve got to go again.

“I can see it in this group why this season they’ve done ever so well, because there’s that hunger amongst each other, to do well for each other and to cover each other’s backs when it’s needed.”

Ince did also have a good viewpoint to see Town up close and personal earlier in the season having been on the bench when Stoke picked up a 2-0 win at Kenilworth Road back in October.

He said: “It was a tricky game, I think you always get that when you play here, the tight pitch, unfortunately there is no fans but it is always a tough place to come.

“The way the lads played during that game, you could see that the manager’s style was really embedded.

“Playing out from the back, playing good, positive football. Throwing men forward, it is great to watch and I’m sure it is great to play in so I’m looking forward to building and getting back into it.”

The former England U21 international's arrival was met with a positive reaction from most supporters online too, as he added: “That’s always nice, when you come in, you are a little bit wary of how it might be taken but I’m very pleased with the reception and how it is going to be.

“Now it is just a case of working hard for this football club, trying to do what I can.

"Trying to create goals, score goals and whatever that takes to help this club pick up as many points as possible.”
