The left back was one of boss John Still’s first additions during the close season, penning a two year deal after his release from West Ham.

Potts has had a close look at Town’s assembled squad out in Portugal, plus the pre-season matches so far, and when asked for his thoughts on an intended promotion push, he said: “I think that’s definitely what we are looking for, we’re not really going to settle for anything less.

“Everyone who’s here can see that as well, it’s all boiling down to that.

“The strength in depth in the squad and the challenges for the places, the way the lads are.

“We know what we need to do so that when the season does start, we can hit the ground running and get promoted.”

Potts left West Ham after a 12-year association with the club when he was released in the summer.

Despite other clubs in for his signature, Luton was his first choice, particularly after chatting to some familiar faces.

He said: “There was talk and interest, but when I came and met the gaffer here and he laid his wants for the season and what he thought about the club on the line, we were both mutual in the respect and it was a bit of a no-brainer.

“I’m close with Elliot Lee too, he enjoyed his spell here, I’ll be on his case should he want to come back.

“I knew Pelly (Ruddock Mpanzu) from West Ham too and he’s been here a couple of seasons now, so it was nice to see faces you already know.”
