PREVIEW: Hatters welcome Bucks for the first time

HATTERS entertain AFC Telford tonight in the Bucks first ever visit to Kenilworth Road, writes Mike Simmonds.

The only previous meeting between the two sides was earlier in the current campaign when Hatters top scorer Amari Morgan-Smith was on target twice as Luton eased to a 2-0 success.

It’s been a tough introduction to life in the Blue Square Bet Square Premier for Andy Sinton’s side and they can be well pleased with their start, as they sit in 17th place, five points above the drop zone.

Away from home they have struggled though, despite winning their second trip of the campaign at York City of all places, with a dogged 1-0 win.

Since then, they have drawn four and lost four of their eight matches, but in that sequence, picked up a 2-2 draw at title contenders Fleetwood Town and also held Kidderminster Harriers too.

The Bucks have become tough to beat, barring their 4-0 hammering at Chelmsford City in the FA Cup, conceding 28 goals in 21 games, and haven’t been breached in their last two games.

Playerwise, the club snapped up Leicester City forward Elliot Chamberlain on loan until the New Year recently, who is highly rated at the Foxes academy and has also represented Wales U21s.

Boss Andy Sinton also made a treble signing too with Tamworth midfielders Ashley Cain and Jay Smith joining on loan until January and the former England international brought in Droylsden forward Steve Jones.

Team news: Hatters are still without leading scorer Amari Morgan-Smith as he has yet to recover from his hamstring injury, while defender Ed Asafu-Adjaye remains out.

Tommy Wright is fit, as is Keith Keane, who was among the substitutes at Newport County AFC at the weekend.

Telford will also miss their leading scorer Chris Sharp, who is suspended, while ex Wolves forward Adam Proudlock has a broken ankle.

View from the opposition - Andy Sinton: “We’re excited about going to Luton but we’re certainly not going there to make the numbers up. We’ll go there and have a go.

“I don’t think anyone in the league or anyone in the country will give us a hope in hell of winning the game tonight, so maybe we can just go and play.

“But that doesn’t mean we will just go and waste the game because it would be a massive three points.

“We went up to York and won and we went to Mansfield when they were four minutes from going top of the league and held them.

“What we take against the likes of Luton, York and Wrexham isn’t really going to affect our position throughout the course of the season but we’ll look forward to it and going to Luton on a Tuesday night is what being in the Conference is all about.

“Let’s not kid ourselves, it’s going to be a massive ask but if someone tells me it’s impossible I’ll argue until the cows come home.

“Going to play Luton on their own pitch with six or 7,000 fans there will be fantastic, I can’t wait.”One to watch: Steve Jones – Veteran striker recently moved to Telford from Droylsden.

The 35-year-old scored the only goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Barrow and has enjoyed a lengthy career since starting out at Blackpool in 1995.

It was with Crewe he enjoyed his most success, scoring nearly 50 goals in five years at Gresty Road, before recent spells at Bradford, Walsall and Motherwell.

Jones has also represented Northern Ireland on 29 occasions too, scoring once for his country.

Top scorers: Hatters - Amari Morgan-Smith (9). Bucks - Chris Sharp (4).
