With club captain Tom Lockyer absent as he continues to recover from his cardiac arrest, his usual deputy Carlton Morris was initially dropped to the bench by boss Rob Edwards, before missing the last two games due to injury. Defender Amari’i Bell has also stepped up, the Jamaican international then absent with a hamstring problem, meaning Clark was named as skipper for the 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday last month.

He had the same role during Friday night's 3-1 loss to Plymouth Argyle, also continuing for the midweek contest against Oxford United as well, on target with his first goal of the season, putting the hosts 1-0 up, a lead they then doubled but couldn’t hold on to, pegged back to a 2-2 draw. Asked just how much it means to him to have been given the role, Clark said: “To captain this great club is a real, real proud moment for me. I never thought of myself as a real leader, but I sort of like the responsibility now. It’s something I’m always trying to work towards and get better at.

"I’m watching little things like the documentary on leaders now, so I've really taken to it and I like the responsibility. I’m not a big shouter, I’ll never be a Roy Keane captain, one of them, but I just always try to be dead positive with the lads and just try and help anyone out who I can. I try to give 100 percent like I always think I do and I’m really proud to captain this club.”
