Rendell warns against dreaming of a tie with Arsenal or Manchester United

Town striker Scott Rendell insists his side aren’t dreaming of a meeting with the likes of Manchester United or Arsenal in the FA Cup just yet, writes Mike Simmonds.

Hatters entertain Blue Square Bet South side Dorchester Town in the second round on Saturday, with the big boys entering the competition at the third round stage.

Victory could see Town land a money-spinning tie, but that can’t play on Hatters’ minds against a side who knocked out League Two Plymouth Argyle in the first round, according to Rendell.

He said: “We can’t think about who we’re going to get in the third round.

“Maybe some people thought that in the first round (against Nuneaton) and we needed to score a late goal and go to a replay.”

That view was echoed by boss Paul Buckle, who hopes the game can act as a springboard for his side’s indifferent home form that has seen them win just four out of 10 game so far.

He continued: “I’m very aware they’ve just beaten a League Two team. If that doesn’t give you the warning that they’re more than capable of beating a Conference side, then you’d be very foolish.

Goalkeeper Mark Tyler is also aware his side are clear favourites to go through, and hoped Town’s fans come out in force as he added: “It’s a tie we’ll be expected to win. It won’t be easy but it’s up to us and the club to get to the third round. Hopefully there’ll be a big crowd turn out and cheer us on.”
