Robins boss wishes 'committed' winger all the best as he heads to Luton

Archer back at Kenilworth Road following Cheltenham exit

Cheltenham Town boss Steve Cotterill wished ‘committed’ winger Ethon Archer the best of luck as he joins up with Luton on a permanent basis following the end of his loan move at Whaddon Road.

The 23-year-old was signed by the Hatters back in August, but allowed to remain with the Robins for the first half of the campaign. There had been some question marks from Cheltenham supporters about his appetite to perform due to his future move to Town, but he has answered them recently, scoring three goals in four matches, including the winners at Swindon Town and Barrow, also adding two assists as well.

Archer has made 28 appearances in total, as the attacker, who has played for Whyteleafe, Bedfont Sports, Sutton Common Rovers, Horley Town, Raynes Park Vale and Three Bridges, also working as an Amazon delivery driver during his time at Torquay United and then a matchday steward for AFC Wimbledon, eventually heading to Cheltenham in 2024, will now be at Kenilworth Road and working with manager Jack Wilshere, as speaking to Gloucestershire Live about losing the forward, Cotterill, speaking after the 4-1 defeat at Crewe Alexandra on New Year’s Day, said: “I keep an eye on lots of players who I’ve had throughout my career so Ethan will be another one of those players.

"I’ve said to him any time he needs to call me I’ll be on the end of the phone and if I don't answer it’s probably because I’m on it, so in January it might be tough for him, but any other time I would be there for him. He’s been a great kid. I know there’s been, ‘is he up for it anymore?’ But I thought the kid played today as committed as he probably could play out there and deservedly did get that round of applause at the end. I’m really pleased for him as I know a little about his upbringing, his background, as we’ve had conversations and I love it when kids like him get the opportunities.

"I wish him all the best and I hope it goes really, really well for him, I will miss him being around for sure. We've put on a good performance and he deserves it. He's a young boy that's come through non-league, come up the hard way, fights like hell for his family. I wanted him to be the best player on the pitch today. It was good he got a good ovation from our supporters, who were brilliant. Not just through the game, but at the end of the game and the lads really appreciated the support they got."
