The 23-year-old’s six month at Kenilworth Road runs out shortly, but the ex-Gillingham and Swindon wideman declared he is desperate to remain at Kenilworth Road.

Rooney, who joined from Maidstone United in March, said: “I absolutely love it here and I certainly want to be staying here for the long term.

“That’s down to the gaffer though, I haven’t really heard anything yet.

“We’ll have to speak about it soon as I’m not a young boy, I’m a 23-year-old and have bills to pay, mortgages to sort out.

“Hopefully that will get sorted soon as I’ve struck up a great relationship with all the staff and more so the players.”

Rooney has had a frustrating season so far as after scoring twice in his first seven games, picked up an injury at York on September 16 and hasn’t featured since.
