The 22-year-old could make his first start since October 25 after manager John Still confirmed changes would be made from Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Accrington Stanley.

Ruddock Mpanzu said: “They’re in the Championship now and deservedly, so we’ve got to see how we can do and hopefully we can cause an upset.”

Team-mate Jonathan Smith was also looking forward to the clash with the Robins, and urged his side to continue their impressive form at Kenilworth Road.

He said: “We’re very strong at home and I hope we can continue that ruthless home streak we’ve got since I’ve been here.”

Meanwhile, captain Steve McNulty believes the challenge against a side who romped to the League One title last year is perfect for his team.

He added: “You always want to test yourself against those better sides. We played against teams above us in pre-season, but I don’t think you can really look into those games, as there’s not much bite about them.

“They got promoted, they’ll be really good side and have got some really good players, but that’s where a lot of our younger lads and the lads he’s (John Still) brought in have played at and want to get to.

“So it’s good for everyone to test themselves against players from a higher level to see where you are personally and as a team.”
