Shaw hopes for ‘plum’ tie at a new Premier League ground

The 29-year-old striker has already experienced playing at Old Trafford when his Burton Albion team took Manchester United to a replay in 2004.

And he’s hoping for a ‘plum’ draw, saying: “I honestly don’t really care any more! Like everybody I’d love to go to a place like White Hart Lane, Chelsea, as people know I’ve been to Old Trafford before, so somewhere new, somewhere in the Premier League, somewhere with 30, 40, 50,000 fans would be a fantastic day again for everybody.

“I said this before this draw, it was just an occasion to enjoy. Now we’ve enjoyed this occasion and we’ve gone out and done what not many people expected us to do, so now it would be fantastic to get the plum draw, your Man United, your Chelseas away, and really go and have a good day about it.

“There will be lads in our changing rooms supporting Arsenals, Tottenhams, Chelseas that will be wanting them to come out, I’m just happy to get anyone now.”

Shaw was thronged by the media after yesterday’s thrilling 1-0 victory over Norwich at Carrow Road, and still had all of his family and friends to catch up with.

He said: “Possibly after I’ve got through a thousand text messages on my phone!

“I’ve been away from my wife and two kids for two days so I’m going to hopefully get back, sit down in front of the TV and watch the highlights.

“I’m going to enjoy the changing room, the coach ride home. I’m not going to forget a minute. Like I said, I’ve been in this situation before, cut short at Old Trafford. I’m going to enjoy every minute of it and hopefully tell the lads in there to do exactly the same.”

And Shaw felt his side fully deserved victory on the day, as he continued: “You look at the game from start to finish, and if you look at it we weren’t four leagues below them.

“It’s out there to see that we worked hard, we kept the ball when we needed to, we were organised and yeah there were times when they had long spells of possession, but that’s why they’re in the Premiership. Because they all know how to deal with the ball and they can play at a fast tempo. But what we had to do was stay on our game, stay focused and we did it for 90 minutes.”

Town are now in the last 16 for the first time since they made the semi-finals in 1994, where they eventually succumbed to Chelsea.

But Shaw refused to look any further ahead as he added: “We never thought further than today as we don’t think further than the FA Trophy. Although we would like to win it you have to pass the team in front of you and I’m sure the next team are going to look at this and think right, we’ll step on a little bit more and maybe change even less players. They might go out there and try and give us a really good hiding and teach us a less.

“Again, we have just got to try and enjoy the run for what it is, enjoy the occasion, enjoy the game that comes our way and like I say, hopefully I will be a part of it.”
