Smith determined to hit the target more often

It was his only his fourth goal in 79 appearances for Luton and his first since November 26, 2013 when he scored against Southport.

Speaking afterwards, Smith said: “It was about time I knocked one in for the boys. It was one of those that as soon as I hit it, I knew it was in.

“I’ve scored a few decent goals in my time. I’d like to get more goals if I’m honest.

“I’ve got the engine to get up and down, it’s just about having that composure to finish it off.”

Smith’s last Boxing Day clash for Hatters had ended in agony as he suffered a double leg break in the 2-1 win at Barnet, but he admitted it hadn’t come into his thoughts before the game.

The former York player continued: “A few people mentioned that to me, but it wasn’t on my mind to be honest.

“My mind was to come here, do a job and get a result for the team.

“It seemed like a bit of a basketball match in the last 15 minutes. Fair play to both teams for pushing on to win it.

“You get a lot of teams that would have just sat in there and said we’ll take the draw, but we went for it.

“In the end, we have to be quite pleased with a point as Wycombe have been doing well, especially at home, so we’ll kick on now on Sunday.”
