Still admits interest in permanent McGeehan deal

Hatters boss John Still has reiterated once more he would like to sign Norwich City midfielder Cameron McGeehan, but only on a permanent basis.

The 19-year-old made a real impression during his loan spell with the club last season, scoring three times in 18 appearances on his way to a Conference title winners medal.

Speaking to the press this week, McGeehan, who hasn’t played for the first team this campaign, admitted he might well go out on loan again, with Kenilworth Road a possible destination.

However, Still said: “We don’t need to loan Cameron McGeehan, if we could sign Cameron McGeehan, that might be different.

“But with (Jonathan) Smith, (Nathan) Doyle, (Andy) Drury, (Matt) Robinson, (Jim) Stevenson, we don’t need to loan the player.

“That doesn’t mean to say if he was available, we might say it might be worth us investing in someone of his age, his experience and his ability, because he did very well here.

“We’ll just monitor things with Cam, I would like to have Cameron here, but I dont want to loan him.”

Still had tried to buy McGeehan during the summer, but couldn’t match the value placed on him by Norwich, although the boss thinks that is always up for discussion.

He added: “Things change quickly in football, the managerial change there, and the value of a player isn’t necessarily what the club puts on them, it’s the value the buying club are prepared to go to.

“We could say we want a million pounds for so and so, but is that his value? Probably not. The value is what someone’s willing to pay.”
