Still aware of Town’s lack of firepower on their travels

Hatters boss John Still admits Town’s lack of goals away from home this season has been a cause for concern.

Town have only scored 13 goals from 15 matches on the road, with Tuesday night’s failure to net at Mansfield making it mere five strikes in their last eight games.

The last time Luton scored twice on their travels was back in October when they won 2-1 at Hartlepool, but Still felt three key absences to his squad were playing their part.

He said: “Obviously I’m aware of that (lack of goals). Whatever I say and whatever I do, you can’t come away from facts.

“Andre (Gray) left and that was 30 goals, If someone can go and get someone to score 30 goals just like that, even if you’ve got money, good luck to you, you might be lucky.

“We lost 18 with Paul Benson, he’s had injuries most of the time, we lost 14 with Luke Guttridge.

“Well that is impossible to replace short term, that amount of goals, but hopefully we can as we get going and keep working.

“That’s one of the reasons I’ve been so pleased we’ve been able to be where we are as we lost all those goals, honestly and truly, it’s not possible to replace that.”

Despite their shortage of goals, Hatters are still fourth in the table and have an impressive return of five wins, six draws and just four defeats away from Kenilworth Road.

Still added: “What concerns me is winning, we have to win enough games to try and get up.

“At the end of the season if we’ve won enough games to go up, all the other bits don’t concern me.

“If you look back to last year when people were saying we’ve broken this record and that one, records don’t bother me until it’s all over.

“Then I can look back at clean sheets, amount of goals, all that concerns me at the moment, is winning. If we win 1-0, 4-0, 8-0, I’m not worried, all we need is enough points to go up.”
