Still backs Hatters to come good

Luton left it late to steal a point against Bury on Tuesday night, but underwhelmed for long periods on the night.

It’s a similar theme to last season when Hatters took just 10 points from their opening eight games scoring just five goals, but went on to win the league by some 19 points.

Still said: “I just don’t think we’ve got a balance at the moment, but what I do know is that as the season goes on, my teams normally get stronger and better.

“I think we showed it last year, but what we can’t be, is we can’t be one thing or the other.

“You can’t be a little bit pregnant, you’re pregnant or you’re not, you’re good or you’re not.

“We’re just in that little bit of in between at the moment, and I’d sooner be poor and you know everything’s in front of you and you’ve got to go and do it.

“We’ve got to come out and say ‘yes, we are good’.

“We’re almost good, but you can’t be almost good.”

Still has no doubt his team will manage it though, as he continued: “All I know is that we will get there.

“At the moment, because of the qualities we do have, we’re always in games as we were last year.

“Gradually we’ll go on and on and on and produce a good winning run.

“We’ve had three league games, a good win away, and close here (Kenilworth Road) with Wimbledon who’ve won away again.

“Then against a very strong side, we’ve got a point, so that’s four points out of the three games and I wouldn’t be over disappointed by that.”

Defender Scott Griffiths hadn’t been too downhearted about the result against Bury, adding: “It felt fairly equal, we gave the ball away sometimes when we didn’t need to which made us look less of a good team than we actaully are, which was disappoiting.

“Overall it was a fair result.”

On his own performance, Griffiths added: “So far, I want to say, so good.

“I’m disappointed we’ve not got the maximum points, but you can’t always go out and win three league games on a spin.

“I thought we have played well in the past games and just haven’t scored as many as we would have hoped to, but we’ll get underway with that and it will work out.”
