Still believes Gibbons deserves a second chance

The Durham City AFC midfielder, who is expected to conclude a deal to sign for Luton shortly, has just finished a two year ban for failing a random drugs test.

Gibbons had seen his contract terminated at the Stadium of Light when he tested positive for two prohibited substances after an U18s match against Aston Villa on September 22, 2012.

But on his decision to offer him a way back into the game, Still said: “His dedication to get a career that could have been lost has really struck us all.

“How I look at it is young people do stupid things.

“If that young person was your son or my son, as long as he’s not done anything that could harm somebody else, then I think that at that age, they deserve a chance.”

Still also confirmed that he saw Gibbons more as a holding midfielder who can play in defence, and expects him to join Hatters’ development squad to begin with.
