Still concedes Hatters were outplayed

The visitors were up against from as early as the third minute when Jordan Clark broke though to score, while he added a second after the break.

Town’s only real threat came from a long Matt Robinson shot, with the midfielder then sent off late on for a lunging challenge.

Still said: “We were well outplayed, we conceded a goal too early again, from last week, that’s really disappointing.

“It was a good ball and a good goal, but from where its come from, we’ve got to defend that better.

“I thought for the next half an hour we were chasing and we got back in the game towards the end of the first half, so I thought second half we maybe able to push on a little bit.

“But they were better than us, we haven’t played with enough quality, enough passing quality, which is a feature of what we do.

“Ball retention, we were going forward and losing the ball too easy, which gave them too much of the ball, and they moved it well.

“We defended reasonably solid, changed our system early on to match up, but gave too many free kicks away and forget the result, they deserved to beat us.”

On Robinson’s dismissal, Still continued: “From where I was, it was a double footed challenge, but I’m a long way from it.

“I haven’t seen it again yet, it looked like he went in with both feet, he says no, but from where I was it looked like it.”

For the second game running, Still made an early tactical substitution, surprisingly replacing Luke Rooney for Alex Lacey as Town switched to a 3-5-2 formation.

Rooney was visibly stunned by the decision, but Still added: “I can’t worry about that, I’m not here to make Luke Rooney happy, I’m here to make the team have a benefit, so I’m not worried about that.

“We’d had three reports and hadn’t seen them play that at all.

“I felt that matching up was going to be the best option and I think it was, because we were able to try and isolate defenders.

“We did it a little bit without retaining the ball well enough. That was the problem, we couldn’t get right up behind it and start the balling moving as lacked a lot of quality in that area.”
