Still confident Town will be ready for Pompey

Hatters boss John Still doesn’t think his side will have any problems getting ready for today’s crunch League Two clash with Portsmouth.

Luton were involved in an almighty Boxing Day battle against Wycombe on a heavy pitch, but despite the quick turnaround, Still is confident his side will cope.

He said: “I’m ready, it’s not difficult, these are professional footballers. We’ll be fine, they’ll recover, and same as everyone else who’s got to do it.”

Midfielder Jonathan Smith doesn’t believe tiredness will be a problem either as he said: “It’s not ideal, but you’ve just got to prepare well and be ready for it.

“You want to win your home games and our home form has been really strong. We’ll look to keep that going Sunday, we’ll give Portsmouth a right game for sure.”

Although the game is a sell-out at Kenilworth Road, with Pompey a huge name at this level, Smith wasn’t approaching the fixture any differently.

He said: “It’s only another three points, whoever you play, whether it’s bottom of the league or top of the league.

“You’ve got to prepare for every game the same, that’s what I do. I don’t think, we’re playing Portsmouth I’d best get up for it, so we’ll treat at it as any other game.”

Boss Still added: “I can’t control them (Portsmouth), we’ll be ready and hopefully it’s another good game, a big crowd, fantastic occasion and Luton Town Football Club are on their way back.

“We’ve shown in our performances, we’re never beaten, we never give up, never stop.

“We might not play great every week, but the heart and desire will always be there.

“If you’ve got heart and desire you’re going to grow. You might grow slow sometimes, quick sometimes, but you’ll keep growing.”
