Still could be in the market for a striker

Hatters boss John Still could look to strengthen his front-line should the right player become available.

Town have struggled in front of goal so far this season, scoring just twice and creating limited chances.

The window closes on Monday, September 1 and on adding to his firepower, Still said: “We brought in two young ones in Ricky (Miller) and Charlie (Walker), knowing they were never actually going to go straight in.

“They both have a chance, there’s no investment in them financially, we can bring them in, work with them and give them a chance.

“If I was to bring another one in, it would be one who could come in and go straight in, regardless of his age.

“But that person hasn’t emerged yet. We know most and have spoke about some, but that hasn’t happened. Will it happen? I don’t know yet.”

Still admitted that if if he does enter the transfer market, it could well be for a striker of similar ilk to Andre Gray who joined Brentford in the summer.

He said: “We know we’ve lost a little bit of pace from our front line with Andre (Gray), but we won games when Andre didn’t play

“We played well in games when Andre didn’t play and we came from behind in games when we made a change with Andre.

“That doesn’t mean to say we don’t miss Andre, of course we do, and if there was a similar type out there, then maybe it’s a type we would look for.

“There are players out there, but I’m not just going to get anybody.

“If someone comes up that’s the right person for us and the right thing, of course we’ll look at it.”

Still confirmed he won’t be looking to improve his squad in any other areas, as he expects players like Paul Connolly, Alex Lawless, Jonathan Smith and Shaun Whalley to be back in the not too distant future.

He added: “No, because the injuries are not long term, Paul Connolly may make the weekend, if he doesn’t, he’ll certainly make next week,.

“I would think Lawless would make next week, Curtley Williams, we just need a couple of games with him.

“I don’t envisage having to go into the transfer market for that at all.”
