Town boss John Still believed that midfielder Charlie Smith’s first professional contract was a just reward for the teenager.

Smith, 18, was handed the deal last Wednesday after impressing the Luton boss both in training and during his loan spell at Hitchin Town.

He joins the likes of Zane Banton and Ian Rees who have both signed pro terms as Still said: “Charlie deserves it, he’s done ever so well.

“He’s a good kid, along with Rees and Banton, and I think that’s reward for the kids working very hard so I’m pleased with that.”

With Luton back in the Football League, Still admitted Smith and co might well spend another stint on loan at the start of the campaign to further his development.
