The inquisitive Town chief had been set to travel to an unknown destination and miss Luton’s 2-2 home draw with Newport County to see an unspecified target.

Social media and fans’ forums had linked him with a number of names including Ebbsfleet keeper Preston Edwards, Tamworth target man Adam Cunnington and Forest Green Rovers midfielder Yan Klukowski. Still denied interest in all three, but on former Town trialist Edwards, 23, he said: “He’s injured. I know Preston. I also had him at Dagenham for a little while.”

Leighton Buzzard-born Cunnington, 25, is near the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier scoring charts with 20 this season, while midfielder Klukowski, 26, was a Luton target earlier in the campaign before signing a new deal with FGR.

Still had a wasted journey to Dorchester Town v Maidenhead United on Saturday and had to call off his mission on Tuesday night too.

He said: “I was going to go somewhere, but after the last time some of the people weren’t happy.

“If a player had been playing, I’d have gone, but I didn’t because he wasn’t playing so it wasn’t necessary.

“I was glad I was here actually because I enjoyed the game.”

Still has already declared that he is set for a busy summer with a number of ins and out – as decisions on both are yet to be made.

On his search for players, he said: “I have a terrific scouting system that’s done fantastic for me over the years and everyone’s out and about.

“But, there’s only one, two, maybe three people that can say ‘yes’ and the manager’s one of them, the assistant manager’s another one and there’s only one other person really that can go ‘yes!’

“So it’s not easy, but we will find what we want.”

Equally though some familiar faces are set to be disappointed later this week when more are likely to be deemed surplus to requirements.

“I know exactly where I am and this week will be a difficult week if I’m going to be honest,” Still said.

“There’s one or two that perhaps haven’t played in the last couple of games that I’ve possibly made my mind up about already and maybe one or two that are playing at the moment that I haven’t made my mind up about.

“I wouldn’t look too much into it. Plenty of question marks.”

Still was largely pleased with Tuesday night’s draw and, while excelling on several occasions, keeper Dean Brill failed to come for Newport’s first goal and punched when he should have caught for the second.

He added: “I think so, I think that’s probably about accurate, but he didn’t and they scored.

“That’s what these games are doing for me, they’re showing me that there’s areas we perhaps need to be a little bit better in.”
