Still eager to select ‘game-changing’ Ruddock Mpanzu

The 22-year-old has struggled terribly with injury for the past 12 months, as he hasn’t started a League Two game since October 25.

He has made only 11 appearances in that time for the club too, although there are signs he is now on the way back, named in the match day squad against York City last weekend.

Boss Still believes his explosive nature the one missing component from his side’s game as he said: “Pelly Ruddock is getting stronger and stronger in training.

“I think Pelly has amazing pace and power and strength which can take him past people, he can be unstoppable at times.

“He is one player I would like to get back in, his pace and his power and his strength, is game-changing.

“We brought him on last year at Cambridge, he came on and won a penalty, and just purely through his pace and power, he can go past two or three players in a flash.”

Still is also confident the former West Ham youngster is nearing an end to his injury-hit year though after the club finally got to the root of his hamstring problems.

He added: “He had a really difficult time last year, we’ve gone steady with him this year.

“He played in the reserve team game the other day, we put him on the bench against York and I would possibly have used him, but we changed our system because they were defending so deep that we went with wing-backs. Otherwise, I think I might have brought him on.

“His hamstring has done him a favour, it didn’t do us particularly a favour but he had a problem there that wasn’t just his hamstring.

“Well we’ve found the problem and dealt with that now. It’s been a difficult road back for him, but when you’ve been out for a while, you get referral injuries. He got a soppy dead leg that you can’t do anything about, but his hamstring is fine.

“We had no problem including him in the squad on Saturday and I think in the next two or three weeks he’ll be in and around it.”
