Still: Green needed a kick up the backside

The summer signing from MK Dons was handed his first start at home in League Two against Barnet on Saturday, scoring the opening goal with a wonderful strike.

Still had been critical of the wideman’s efforts in training priot to the game, and when asked he why he opted to give him another opportunity, he said: “Because he’s worked harder in training, simple as that.

“We like to play with wide people, but I can only play them if they’re working their socks off and impressing in training.

“That’s where everyone shows it five days a week, I’m sure people wouldn’t want me to pick a player that’s not trying and not working hard enough.

“Well Danny has really, really worked his socks off the last couple of weeks, he came on the other day (against Crawley) and did it, and got a deserved start.

“He needed a little bit of a kick up the backside, but he’s worked hard since and we felt that we would go 4-4-2, so that’s what we did.

“He produced a goal, produced a few crosses as well, ran out of petrol a bit towards the end, but we’ll keep pushing him now and hopefully get some good attacking performances.”
