The 20-year-old has made four appearances since signing from the Royals, who are yet to declare if they will allow him to feature in this weekend’s FA Cup trip to Crawley Town.

With Long missing next week’s League Two clash against Barnet due to a call-up for the Ireland U21s as well, Still said: “We’re in talks with Reading at the moment. Steve O’Donnell had his operation and is still a few weeks away, so if we can do something with Sean, we will.

“I think that we will get a conclusion satisfactory to us and if we can agree with them to extend it, I think they will let us play him in the FA Cup.

“I don’t think that he’d be able to if we don’t extend it, but if we extend it I think he’ll be okay to play in the FA Cup, but we’ll know later on today.”

On Long’s impact since his move last month, Still added: “He’s done really well. He’s a type I like, young and ambitious, wants to do well for himself.

“He’s come in and fitted in really, really well and he’s impressed everyone with his attitude and I think his ability too.”
