Still not rushing into making changes

Hatters boss John Still has confirmed he won’t be rushed into making change to his misfiring front line.

With Mark Cullen scoring just once and Paul Benson yet to net this season, then the pair are coming under increasing pressure from the likes of Alex Wall and Ross Lafayette.

Wall strengthened his claim by bagging a treble during a 6-1 development squad hammering of Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday.

Still said: “Alex Wall did get a hat-trick against Wycombe and he did fine, two of those were restarts, so they weren’t actual general play, one a penalty, one a free kick.

“The people that played the other day are pushing, they really are pushing.

“But it’s really important when you start something, you can’t chop and change all the time.

“You’ve got to give people a chance to bed in and settle in. I always say it takes, six, seven, eight, nine, 10 games to get your team how you would like it.

“We found that last year and I’ve found it most years to be honest.”

Despite Town’s lack of goals so far this campaign, Still wasn’t disappointed with the start they had made to life in League Two.

He added: “They weren’t in the high numbers at this stage last season and what life has told me and football’s taught me, in a marathon, the person up the front doesn’t usually win a marathon, and they come from behind.

“Have we started as well as we’d have liked? Yes, I think we’ve started okay. Could we have started better? Definitely we could have.

“We’ve lost one league game, we’ve played away to Carlisle, played Bury who are strong and going to be up there, played Wimbledon who were unbeaten, and we’ve played Accrington, which we are disappointed with the performance, other than that I’m quite pleased.”
