Still praise for efficient Hatters

Town ended their season with a hectic run-in, playing four games in eight days, but recovered from Sean Clancy’s early goal to run out comfortable winners thanks to Matt Robinson’s strike and a brace from Andre Gray.

Still said: “We were efficient, but I thought we looked like two tired teams, two teams that knew the season was over.

“The good points are we responded well from being a goal down, we shouldn’t have gone a goal down and probably could have got a few more goals.

“To come away from home after a difficult run, there’ll be games next year where you’ve got to say to yourself, it’s about winning.

“Winnings a habit. Did we play great? No, but we played quite well recently.

“They’ve had a few chances, but overall, it’s been a tough 10 days and one or two needed a rest now.”

Town made six changes to the side that defeated Ebbsfleet on Tuesday night and Still conceded he would have made more if the options were available.

He continued: “It was difficult, there were a few players I would have liked to not play. Smudger (Jonathan Smith), I didn’t really want to play him, but we were so short in that area.

“I think we needed the season to end because the weather played havoc with the fixture list and we had so many games in a short space of time.”

Robinson continued his fine end to the season and showed signs he could blossom into a box-to-box central midfielder with a well-timed run and finish

Still said: “I’m pleased for him, he’s a young boy whose forced his way forward.

“That’s good, I like him. He was one really who didn’t want to play if I’m being honest. He has had a good run in the team, and it’s probably taken quite a bit out of him.

“I’m pleased he’s played now as he’s got a goal and you always remember your first goal, whoever you are, and I’m sure he’ll remember that.”

Meanwhile, Gray’s excellent end to the campaign saw him score six in his final six games to end with 20 goals in all competition.

Still added: “With a touch of luck and a touch of good fortune, he’d have got a hat-trick.

“It’s fantastic. To have got someone who can score that amount of goals it’s a massive plus.

“What we’ve got to do is try and make sure we find goals from other areas as well. It’s important, but if we’ve got a player getting 20 goals a season, and we can find a couple of others who are getting into high double figures, that’s going to make for an interesting season.”
