Still ready for Carlisle opener

Town start their League Two campaign at Brunton Park against a side who were relegated last season, but have signed some vastly experienced players such as Billy Paynter and Gary Dicker.

Still said: “This time last season there was two divisions between us, so it’s going to be tough.

“There’s a lot of travelling, but they’re all tough games. I’ve learned that over the years.

“I don’t care what league you’re in, that’s what makes it so exciting, because if it was easy, wouldn’t be worth playing.

“Think they’ll be one of the teams to challenge, but football doesn’t always go the way you want it to go.

“Whatever’s put in front of us, we’ve got to find a way to deal with, I know they’ll be a good side and know it will be a big test.”

That was a view echoed by midfielder Jake Howells, who said: “It’s going to be tough, a long journey, but every game is going to be a tough game.

“It doesn’t matter who you play, we’ll go out there, have the same attitude, try and get the three points and hopefully we can.”

The boss also conceded Town’s hosts might be under more pressure going into the game from home fans hoping their side can win promotion at the first attempt.

When asked if it might be the case, he said: “Probably, but it’s at all levels now.

“What will Manchester United supporters expect? What would Liverpool supporters expect? Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City?

“There’s an expectation, it’s growing all the time and even with the smaller clubs, they will have it.

“It’s how you deal with the expectation. Sometimes it’s too great and you have to try and match that.

“Not everyone will, some will be better and some will be less, for me, I just want to look back at my team and say we’ve fulfilled our potential.”
