Still relishes Morecambe test

The Town chief had plenty of battles with the Shrimps in the Conference when manager at Dagenham & Redbridge, before both sides were promoted to the Football League in 2007.

Still felt that Jim Bentley’s side reminded him of his former club too as he said: “I like Morecambe, I know a lot about Morecambe, I know some of their players and most of their staff.

“I always put them in a similar bracket as my old club Dagenham, everyone has to work their socks off to achieve what they want.

“They’re in a good footballing area, which helps to get players, that’s a plus for them.

“I know how hard everyone has to work and I’ve got a lot of time for Jim and all of this staff.

“I always look forward to playing Morecambe home and away, I’ve encountered some good games with them over the years.

“They’ve always been a club I call a proper club, proper, hard working, proper people.”

On the test that the Shrimps will possess, Still was quick to pinpoint leading scorer Kevin Ellison as a player to watch out for.

He added: “They’ll be up and at it, very competitive, move the ball quickly. They’ll play as a team and a team ethic carries you a long way.

“They’ve grown as a club on team ethic and don’t have too many star individuals, which isn’t knocking their players as they’ve got some good players.

“Ellison’s always a handful, always, always causes a problem. (Andy) Parrish at the back is a good defender and they’ve got some decent all round players.

“Their team ethic is sometimes hard to overcome, they’ll be up for it and we’ve got to make sure we are able to compete with that.”
