Still takes responsibility for Town’s poor start

Luton made it four games without a victory on Saturday, as they threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at Yeovil Town.

Speaking afterwards, Still said: “It’s up to the players to be responsible for themselves, but at the end of the day, it’s up to the manager to be responsible for the team.

“They’re my players, I bring them in, I sort the coaching out, I educate them in what I believe is the right thing to do, so I don’t absolve myself.

“I have to be responsible, of course I do, and in the two and a bit years that I’ve been here, most of the players have seen steps forward.

“It’s really important that we keep taking those steps forward, that’s why we’ve seen so many changes this year.”

Still has now made 12 new signings this term, with the addition of Olly Lee his latest new recruit last week, but didn’t think so many new faces was the reason behind Town’s shoddy opening.

He continued: “Are the changes affecting what we’re seeing a little bit? I don’t think so. I could say we’re still getting used to it, but I don’t think so.

“By and large everybody knows the job and one of the reasons we’ve moved things around a little bit, was really about getting into the season knowing what we can do.

“If I said anything else I’d be making excuses and one thing I learnt years and years ago is you don’t make excuses you take responsibility, so thats how I see it.”

Some supporters have started to question the manager after witnessing poor displays against Bristol Rovers and now Yeovil, but Still remains confident he has built a squad that can challenge for promotion this term.

He added: “We have fantastic support that in every game I can remember have done nothing but get behind their team, and encourage their team.

“Quite rightly, supporters see what’s on the pitch, I see what’s on the pitch and see training and I see the highs and lows.

“I believe the football team will improve, I believe it will challenge, but it wasn’t good enough and that performance wouldn’t challenge.

“The first half, not bad, second half, they were better than us. We never passed it well enough, never tackled well enough, I thought they ran past us too easy, I thought they were the team in the ascendancy, 100 per cent yes.

“We’ve got to get back on it though, do some work, and look forward to Tuesday night’s game, so I’m quite prepared for that.”
