Still targets an improved Kenilworth Road return

Town have tasted success just twice in seven matches at Kenilworth Road so far, with three draws and two defeats, scoring just eight times, and it’s a record that is bothering the manager.

He said: “I think the lack of wins, not necessarily lack of goals, but the lack of wins going back to earlier in the season, the Oxford one from a winning position, would be disappointing.

“A couple of games early on, although not necessarily being as sharp as we can be, from winning positions, that’s what’s disappointing.

“We need to convert more of the home games into wins, I would say that. If we won three at home 1-0, would I be disappointed by that? No. Would I sooner win 4-0? Absolutely I would.”

Still wants his side to start learning how to win ugly too, although didn’t feel that this weekend’s visit of Plymouth had any extra pressure, despite defeat dropping Luton 13 points behind their opponents.

He continued: “We’re on a run of games where we’ve lost one in seven, well I want to look back in sort of 15 games and say we’ve lost two.

“It’s building up that momentum of digging in. One thing we haven’t mastered yet this season consistently winning 1-0. Regardless of form sometimes, you haven’t got to play great all the time to win games, you’ve got to be organised and disciplined.

“Sometimes you can get in this mode where we go and beat Plymouth and then go and lose the next two games, well how important was Plymouth?”

One thing Still was hoping though was a more open game against an Argyle side who have only been beaten twice this season.

He added: “Sometimes the better teams come and play a bit freer, you’re not having to constantly try and break them down.

“If they come and try and win it makes the game better. If it’s an open game it’s a better game as it suits everyone to play someone who’s going to bring the game to you as there’s space to go and play.”
