Still thrilled by some long overdue home comforts

Hatters boss John Still was delighted his side finally produced a performance to be proud of in front of their home fans during the 2-0 win over Barnet yesterday.

While on the road, the Hatters are flying this year, they have found it tough going at Kenilworth Road, with just two victories there so far this term coming from a number of tentative outings.

However, they rectified that with a much-improved display against the Bees, particularly going forward, as goals from Danny Green and Cameron McGeehan sealed a first home triumph since September 26.

Still said: “You always want to produce your best stuff at home. Our away form is exceptional, we’re scoring plenty of goals away from home, but we have scored two here and could have scored more.

“It was a good performance, a strong performance and first half I thought we were very, very good, better than the scoreline as well.

“Second half we said it would be bit more difficult, we needed to play the ball a bit shorter due to the conditions as the ball going forward went all over the place.

“It probably took 10-15 minutes to get into it, but give them their due, they gambled threw men forward without creating chances, as Tyler hasn’t had much to do.

“Jonathan Smith should have put it out of range with a good effort, he’s got to hit the target from there, but when we got our second one, I thought we were comfortable.”

Still also had praise for his defenders who kept a welcome clean sheet, only their fourth of the campaign to date.

He added: “I thought we defended really well for the whole game. Defending in the second half, was really swirly and affected us but not too much.

“We’ve got to make sure we keep strong at the back and we looked strong as (Michael) Gash and (John) Akinde are a handful. The way they play, they do get it forward quick, so to give them very few chances, I’m very pleased.

“We needed in these conditions as well to be quite committed and quite resolute and we were.”
