Still warns Hatters to guard against a Pools backlash

Hatters boss John Still believes today’s opponents Hartlepool could represent an even sterner test to his side given their poor run in form of late.

After a superb start to the season, winning the first four matches, Pools have now lost seven out of nine in all competitions to plummet down the League Two table.

They were comprehensively beaten 3-0 in front of their own fans by Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night too as Still warned: “Hartlepool started bright, they’ve had a little dip, but they may well come again.

“Ronnie Moore has done an excellent job there and all the games are tough. It will be tough Saturday, even more so when now they’ve had a little blip as he will be saying ‘we’ve got to get back to what we were doing’.

“I do think that Hartlepool away regardless of the time of year, regardless of the form, is a tough game.

“This isn’t a sprint, this is a long, tough, hard season and you’ve got to be durable. You’ve got to be able to get a level of consistency in your game and some teams do start particularly bright and fall away, some teams do start bright, then hang in there and don’t quite reach the same level, but are there for all of the season. All teams are different.”

On his opposing number in the dug out, Still added: “Ron I’ve known for too many years and he’s a proper manager.

“He knows what he wants, knows how he wants to do it and the way he wants to do it. He’ll have his own philosophy on what he thinks and what he does, as we all do.

“Ron’s a very, very knowledgeable experienced manager and not that it matters but he’s also a very nice man.”
