Still will investigate Town’s lack of goals

Town have now failed to score in three of their opening seven games, netting just four times overall, as Still said: “First half was as good as anything I’ve seen here since I’ve been here, I was really pleased with how we played.

“Did we not have a cutting edge? I don’t know. We had opportunities, we got shots off, the pace of our game was good.

“Second half was okay, they came into it in fairness. I just thought we played really, really well but haven’t got that cutting edge at the moment, that’s what we’ve missed.

“Like last year, of course you have concerns and when you work in training, I know it sounds silly, but this week has been terrific, the finishing has been terrific.

“All you can do is carry on working and it’s like anything else that’s not quite right, you have to investigate, so we’ll sit down and have a look.

“I thought we showed some fantastic football but the job of all teams is to win matches.

“As we found last year, once we got into it, we found it not easy to win matches, but easier to win matches because we got into that groove and we’ve got to get into that groove as it’s important that we have to make more of our dominance.”

The result means Hatters have taken just five points from their opening six games to sit in 19th place.

Although Still is confident it will turn around, he did admit to being slightly worried by his side’s inability to keep clean sheets which had been such a factor their Conference title triumph.

He added: “Of course I’m disappointed, I was disappointed at this stage last year. But I think I said at the time, I believe that with the work that we’re doing and how we do it, that will fall into place.

“There is nothing that has happened that makes me feel differently. This may sound silly, but I’m a touch more concerned defensively than I was last season because we weren’t conceding at one stage.

“Some of the goals have been a bit soft and I thought we could have defended it a bit better (against Plymouth).

“But this team ethic that we have on and off the pitch is fantastic, and we’ve played some okay football, but we’ve got to be a bit better in both boxes.”
