Still won’t be asking to spend Gray windfall

Hatters boss John Still won’t be knocking down chief executive Gary Sweet’s door to ask for any cash to strengthen his squad after Andre Gray’s big money move to Burnley.

The former Luton striker was snapped up by the Clarets for a fee believed to rise to £9m on Friday, with Luton pocketing well over £1m after inserting a sell-on clause expected to be around 20 per cent.

With Luton’s wretched league form continuing at Yeovil this afternoon, a 3-2 reverse making it no wins from four, Still, who has made 12 signings this summer, doesn’t believe more players are the answer.

He said: “I don’t want any of it, I know it sounds silly, but I’m not asking for anything. I don’t really need to use it, I don’t think.

“When we sat down and looked at the sort of players we wanted to bring in, I’ve been really happy with who we brought in.

“Will changes happen along the way, they do in football, but not particularly at the moment, no.

“Congratulations to Andre, congratulations to Brentford for taking him from us and helping him to improve and congratulations to everyone concerned at this football club for getting him to the position he was in too.”
