Still won’t be making drastic changes for FA Cup

On Town’s last venture into the competition, the Luton manager made four alterations to his side, resting the likes of Mark Tyler, Andre Gray, Ronnie Henry and Scott Griffiths as Luton were beaten 2-1 by Welling United.

However, that won’t be happening this time as speaking to the press this afternoon, he said: “I’m not going to chop too much. They’ll be a possible little change but nothing drastic at all.

“It’s different this year, as one of the differences for me and my players is we’re a year further on.

“We were still learning our job then, we were still in a position where I felt we were not bad and doing okay, but I felt there were lots of players getting to where I wanted them to get to in terms of knowledge of what we wanted.

“I thought it was an opportunity as was the FA Trophy, and it proved the right thing in the end as the experience and knowledge that some of those players got who wouldn’t have been playing in the first team, stood us in good stead.

“When we had no (Jonathan) Smith, no (Luke) Guttridge, two big misses and Matt Robinson was able to step up to the plate and put in decent performances and one or two around it.

“It gave me an insight into some of those not playing in the first team, what would happen if I had to use them later in the year.

“I was quite pleased with that, but we’re a bit further up the road now.”

Still expects to be without Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Alex Lawless once more though, while Ricky Miller is a doubt too as he said: “Lawless not quite, Pelly not quite, Ross Lafayette is getting better, but not yet.

“Ricky Miller’s got to have some teeth out that might affect him, but other than that, I’ve covered everything.”

Welshman Lawless is still yet to start back to back matches this season as Still continued: “It’s just how it is. He overcame his last injury and he caught the bottom of someone’s foot with his toe, so it’s really sore.

“Could we play him? We possibly could, but I don’t have to play him until he’s right.”
