Luton attacker Elijah Adebayo is prepared to bide his time and wait for a chance to show just what he can do in the Championship for the Hatters this season.

The much sought after 23-year-old joined on transfer deadline day recently, Town paying an undisclosed fee to Walsall for his services.

He was on the bench for the first two games, before coming on for his debut during last night’s 2-0 defeat against Cardiff City, playing the final 17 minutes after replacing James Collins.

Speaking before the fixture, Adebayo wasn't afraid to put in the work on the training ground if he couldn't make an impact on the first team immediately, saying: "In an ideal world, I want to come in and hit the ground running straight away.

“Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t, but if it doesn’t it’s about working hard to make sure that it does and whenever I do get my chance I’ve got to be ready.

“From now until that point, I’m going to get myself ready until we reach that point.

“I know they had a fantastic couple of years, getting promoted and establishing themselves in the Championship and the club’s ambition is to push on and get to the next level.

“I’m glad to be a part of that and be on the journey.”

Adebayo is confident that he can only improve under the tutelage of manager Nathan Jones too, saying: “The manager has a lot of ambition, but realistic too.

“He’s told me that it’s a chance to develop and improve at a good age to make sure that I’m constantly improving,

“It might be physically, mentally things that are going to help me improve my game to get to the next level.

“When you’ve got a gaffer that wants nothing but the best and to improve you, you’ve got no other option really, I think that’s why it was the best destination for me.

“He’s a manager that knows what he wants.

“He wants to play a certain style of football, you can see that he is getting his message across to the boys and everyone is on board, everyone is willing to buy in to what he wants to do.

“That is what I want to do, I want to buy in to what he wants to implement to the group.

“As long as you are doing that, you are giving yourself the best chance.

"There is a manager that is progressing the club every year and this year they have established themselves as a Championship team and I know the boys have been doing well this season.

"They know that there is another step to go and to push again, the ambition of the club is going in the right direction and only going one way."

Although Adebayo didn't get much of a look-in against the Bluebirds, who were already 2-0 ahead when he was introduced, on what he thought of the forward's first outing in a Luton shirt, Jones said: "It's very difficult, he’s coming up against three giants.

"So to toil up there on your own against three on your debut for a club is not an ideal scenario, but that’s the learning curve for him."
