Striker McKenzie interested in Hatters move

HATTERS trialist Leon McKenzie wouldn’t be adverse to dropping out of the Football League for the first time in his career if offered a permanent deal at Kenilworth Road, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 33-year-old took the field for Luton in their 1-0 defeat at Bedford Town on Saturday, featuring for just over an hour.

McKenzie has spent the majority of his playing days in the higher echelons of the League, with three Premier League appearances for Crystal Palace, while he also cost Coventry City £1million in August 2006.

The striker was released by Northampton Town at the end of last season despite scoring 10 goals in 27 games and was given a run out by Hatters boss Gary Brabin at the Eyrie.

McKenzie said: “Dropping out of the League doesn’t really concern me too much. I’m in my last season or two, and what is exciting is to help get Luton promoted and get back into the League.

“It would be a nice way to end my career and I feel like what’s meant to be is meant to be.”
