Strong Town look to tame Tigers

SERIOUS Hatters are set to name a massively strong side for the visit of Gloucester City tomorrow night, writes Mark Wood.

With Wembley on the horizon Town seem determined to dismiss the Blues Square Bet North strugglers at Kenilworth Road in the third round of the FA Trophy.

Neither Shane Blackett or Freddie Murray have recovered in time for the game, while young centre-half Alex Lacey is still ruled out with a knee injury.

New signing Robbie Willmott is cup tied, but manager Richard Money is intent on naming a side packed with first team players for the encounter.

On the team he is likely to field, he said: “We don’t consider it a Trophy team.

“We’ve used the squad in a sensible manner but we want to get to the next stage.

“It will be for people to find out tomorrow.”

Dan Walker is back in the squad following the end of his loan spell at Eastbourne Borough, and Money did confirm several starters for tomorrow’s game.

He continued: “We have four or five players who we consider first team players that will be on the pitch.

“We will supplement that with people that played the other night rather than youngsters.

“I don’t think it will be too much of a surprise to see (Kevin) Pilkington in goal, Adjaye (Ed Asafu-Adjaye) and Luke Graham somewhere in the defence, Godfrey Poku in the midfield and (Jason) Walker and (Danny) Crow somewhere in the forward line.”

On what he expects from the Tigers, Money said: “I think they are a useful outfit.

“We’ve seen them the last two weekends. They will be difficult opponents.”

Victory tomorrow would mean yet another game to add to Town’s hectic schedule, but Money was unperturbed.

He said: “We have to deal with that when it comes. At the minute we are fully focused on getting through tomorrow night and see what happens from then.”

But he was pleased to have warmed up for the game with a fine 4-0 win over Darlington in the league on Tuesday night as they showed that there is life at the Hatters after the sale of Andy Drury to Ipswich.

Money said: “We were pleased with the performance and pleased with the result because it was important to make a statement that it wouldn’t affect us.”

And he confirmed that striker Matthew Barnes-Homers was taken off for under performing, adding: “When players don’t perform they get taken off the pitch.”
