Sweet quashes interest in Town full back

SPECULATION linking Luton starlet Jake Howells with a move away from Kenilworth Road this summer has been dismissed by managing director Gary Sweet, writes Mark Wood.

Skysports.com claimed this week that Howells’ progress was being monitored by a host of Football League clubs, reporting that ‘Ipswich, Charlton and Peterborough are all weighing up bids for his signature’.

The story read: “Luton Town teenager Jake Howells looks set for a summer move back to the Football League.

“The 19-year-old left sider can play in either defence or midfield, and has been one of Luton’s top performers this term.

“The Hatters remain in contention for promotion, but look to have a struggle to keep hold of one of their prized assets.”

However, the rumours about Howells, who has made 122 appearances for the club, came as news to the Hatters.

Sweet said: “Nobody at the club has heard anything along those lines.”
