The midfielder has been in impressive form since joining the club, netting his first goal with a coolly-taken penalty at Cambridge United on Saturday.

Taiwo’s short-term contract runs out in the summer and manager John Still has made no secret of his desire to extend it.

The 27-year-old said: “I’m in the here and now. The here and now is I’m at Luton, I’m a Luton football player and I’m being selected to play.

“So while I’m selected I’ll do my best and I’m sure my qualities will show for me to get a deal here.

“Me and John have a really close relationship, there are no grey areas, there’s a lot of transparency.

“I find myself in the situation I find myself now and the only way to get out of it is by me doing something about it.

“Me being here, putting in solid performances is going to benefit me and then the club, that’s all I can do.”

Taiwo was an instrumental part of Still’s side when at former club Dagenham & Redbridge.

On just why he thrives playing for the boss, he continued: “He’s motivating, he gets you to run through a wall that maybe you wouldn’t have run through before the team talk.

“He puts things into perspective and makes you realise there’s more to be achieved than just three points.

“You’ve got your future, your fans to look after, your family to look after.

“There’s so many things why you go out on a Saturday and get three points.”

The midfielder had earned a big money move to Championship side Cardiff City while at Daggers, and after returning to life in non-league again, he said: “In the Conference, number one, you need to be fit and be motivated to play, no matter who you play.

“If you don’t come with that blueprint and that foundation, you’re always going to suffer.

“It’s a bit quicker and a bit less pretty but at the end of the day it’s football and you always try to get three points.”

Town have come under heavy criticism from fans this season for some poor performances at home, but that won’t faze Taiwo as he added: “I’ve heard it before and have always been the sort of person that you can only control what you control.

“You can’t control how an individual perceives the game, I can only control what I can do on the pitch.

“When we have done well they’ve got behind us, before I came in there were a few boos and what not.

“I think that it’s just expecting a bit too much a bit too soon.

“When the the new manager’s ways have been instilled into the players a little bit more, the supporters will reap the rewards after spending their money to come and watch us.”
