Ton-derful Khan earns Hawks a crushing win

ASIF Khan rolled back the years with a breathtaking century in the Luton & District Midweek League Premier Division on Tuesday night.

The Luton Hawks batsman smashed a stunning 118 to help his side to 191-2 against AKCC.

The chase was always going to be difficult and so it proved as AKCC could only manage 123-6 with Hawks securing a much-needed win as they strive to get off the bottom of the table.

After last week’s ruthless display against Kingsway CC, Luton Haiderys suffered a surprising loss to Lions CC which now leaves the Premier title race wide open.

Lions managed to post 101-7 on a difficult pitch with Hammad Shah (36) leading the way.

In reply, Haiderys struggled as they fell short only managing 86-5.

Luton Majestics managed to win a tight contest against Kingsway CC who made 114-6 as Gurdeep Jandu top-scored with 39 and Adil Mustafa taking 1-11.

Majestics who were second in the table began the chase well as Asad Rashid’s 26 set them off swiftly, but Danial Ilayas 3-31 and Aftab Ali (3-11) snapped up quick wickets to leave them struggling on 80-8.

It was then left to Yasir Arfat, who earlier took 3-26 and Nasir Azad (15) to secure a two-wicket victory which closes the gap on the leaders Haiderys to three points.

In Division One, LU Stars continued their unbeaten run as they demolished Luton Cricketers who could only make 55 thanks to Hazeem’s stunning figures of 4-6.

Stars then raced to the target comfortably and secured victory with nine wickets in hand to edge towards automatic promotion.

Luton CC 126-8 has moved to second in the table as they comfortably beat Shaheen CC who could only make 68.

Owais Shah was the top scorer for Luton CC as he hit a quick fire 40.

With a game in hand, Luton Saracens are keeping the pressure on the top two as they secured an impressive victory against Kashmir Cavaliers.

Imran Tahir (4-13) bowled well for Cavaliers as he restricted Saracens to 96 with only Yasir Choudary (36) making a notable score with the bat.

In reply, Cavaliers were reduced to 22-7 as Ashiq (4-15) and Nasir Ahmed (3-13) caused havoc but they saved themselves from embarrassment as they struggled to 70.

Luton Eagles go into the last game unbeaten and amazingly still not sure of promotion.

Eagles won by five wickets as they reached the target of 85 that The Saracens had set them.

If Eagles lose against Specialists and Tigers win next week, then they will miss out on promotion.

Accident Specialists roared into second place as they smashed an impressive 158-5 thanks to Aman Hussain who hammered 69 and also took one wicket. Specialists now know a win in their final game will guarantee promotion.

Haidery Tigers ensured it will be a three-way race as they moved level on points with second placed Specialists after piling up 145-7 with Ahetesham-Ul-Haq top scoring with 47.

They then restricted bottom placed Challney CC to just 111-7.

All quarter-final cup games are scheduled to be played tomorrow after last week’s washout.
