Town boss happy to have an international break

Luton chief Nathan Jones was happy for his side to have an international break despite making it back-to-back wins with a 1-0 success at Preston North End on Saturday.

Although Town climbed to 13th in the table thanks to keeper Daniel Iversen’s late own goal at Deepdale, diverting James Collins’ shot into his own net, Jones wasn’t overly fussed about any momentum being halted by not having a game until the trip to Derby County on Friday, April 9.

When asked if he would have preferred to carry on playing, he said: “No, because they put in big shifts.

“They can’t keep putting in that level of performances, because it takes it out of you.

“Yes, confidence is high, but I don’t think confidence will diminish over the international break.

“Hopefully we’ll come out and we’ve got another two big games in quick succession over the Easter period, but we need to just take a step back now.

“We had a points target this month of nine points out of six games.

"We took nine out of five because of the Rotherham game (being postponed), so it’s been a very successful month and we’re delighted with the position we’re in.

Not all of Town’s players will get a rest, with James Collins, Joe Morrell and Simon Sluga away with the Republic if Ireland, Wales and Croatia respectively, although Tom Lockyer will stay at home having withdrawn from the Wales squad due to his ankle injury.Jones added: "We’re proud of our players who go away for internationals.

"Hopefully they get some minutes, get a bit of rhythm and then come back to us in better shape.”
