Hatters boss John Still can’t wait to lock horns with former Football League club Wrexham this evening, writes Mike Simmonds.

He said: “These are great games. When you get former Football League clubs up against each other they’re great games.

“We look forward to it. We’ve had some tough ones, Forest Green away, Kidderminster away, now Wrexham away.

“They’re fantastic games for the players though, fantastic games for supporters.

“So whoever we play I just love the games, but there’s a little bit more on it when it’s a former Football League club.”

The Red Dragons are languishing in the lower reaches of the Skrill Premier after a poor start to the campaign, as they’ve taken just five points from their opening seven games.

Wrexham had come within a whisker of winning promotion last season, losing to Newport County in the play-off final, and Still admitted that might have affected them this term.

He continued: “Possibly, it’s absolutely possible of it being there. They’ve probably got a little bit of a hangover, but if they’ve got a good enough squad of players, they’ll gradually overcome that as it’s early yet.

“They’re one of the clubs that people would think would be a threat, whether they are or not this season remains to be seen.”

Luton themselves have only won twice this season, and are just five points better off than their hosts, but Still is confident results will soon click if Town keep playing as they have been.

He added: “One thing you’ve got to do is never run away with the fact that you’re winning games.

“You can’t lose fact of you’ve got to be playing well enough to win games.

“Sometimes you can win games without playing well and can run into a little bit of a false sense of security.

“Well I think we’re playing well and when we start winning, we’ll still be playing well and that’s the key.

“The performances of the last four or five games have been very good. Are they good enough? No I don’t think they are good enough. I think there’s so much more that we can do.

“But to the watcher who wouldn’t have an allegiance to either side, I think they would enjoy watching us play.”
