Luton midfielder Joe Morrell was an unused substitute for Wales as they beat Mexico 1-0 in a friendly on Saturday.

In a game most notable for Chris Gunter's 100th cap, as he became the first Welshman to reach the landmark, Morrell was named on the bench, possibly with Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic in mind, as assistant boss Robert Page made 11 changes from the defeat to Belgium in midweek.

Against a side ranked ninth in the world, the hosts scored what proved to be the only goal of the game on 11 minutes, Jonny Williams finding Kieffer Moore to finish well.

Mexico controlled long periods afterwards, but their best chance saw Hirving Lozano denied by Wayne Hennessey.

Wales host Group E leaders Czech Republic tomorrow night in Cardiff.

Town stopper Simon Sluga was on the bench yet again as Croatia earned a 1-0 win over Group H rivals Cyprus in their World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

The only goal of the game came in the 40th minute when Mario Pasalic headed in from close range.

Croatia entertain Malta in their final qualifier of the international break tomorrow night, with ex-Hatter Luke Gambin scoring his first ever goal for the Maltese on Saturday during their 2-2 draw with Slovakia.
