Town sweat on Gleeson injury

Money hopes defender wasn’t badly hurt

LUTON Town boss Richard Money is hopeful that defender Dan Gleeson wasn’t badly injured despite being stretchered off during the 5-0 thrashing of York City on Tuesday night, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 25-year-old has made 28 appearances for Town since signing from Cambridge United in the summer and has been part of a Hatters back four who haven’t conceded in their last five league matches.

With Luton 5-0 up and cruising, Gleeson was caught by a tackle from York substitute Danny Racchi and had to be carried from the field with his right leg in a splint.

After the game, Money said: “We think he’s all right. I don’t think it’s as serious as it looks or lets keep our fingers crossed that it isn’t.

“He’s got a kick from another late tackle. He was off on a stretcher and had his ankle put in a brace just as a precaution. The physios are fairly confident that it’s no more than just bruising.

“He went to hospital for an x-ray straight away and we hope that they’re right because if they’re not it would take the gloss off a wonderful night.”

Town skipper George Pilkington added: “Dan has been excellent all season and hopefully we’ll look forward to seeing him back on the training ground soon.”
