Managing director Gary Sweet said: “We’ve also increased on revenue versus the start of last season, which is the main point.

“I’m more interested in turnover than I am in volume and now we’ve gone past that turnover threshold for the start of last season and I’m quite proud of that achievement and well done to Mike and the boys and the girls in the ticket office for accomplishing that, it’s been a real terrific job.”

And he’s keen to see Luton regenerate their supporter base, adding: “But what I also like is the fact we are now encouraging a lot more kids because of those round about 700 of them are kids that are on free tickets.

“Which in so many cases is so important for our future that we regenerate a new group of Luton supporters and that’s what’s helping to do so.

“And what’s interesting about it is there are so many of the dads and mums or big brothers that are buying their accompanying ticket with them who haven’t come before or who haven’t been a season ticket holder before so for it’s been a win-win situation.”
